First Impressions

First impressions can mean the difference between being remembered and being forgotten. Our first time interacting with someone shouldn't be something to stress over, but it's important to know how to perform our best. When we put our best self out there, we get the same in return.

Create a connection. When we meet new people for the first time, this is our opportunity to genuinely get to know them. Find out their interests, what they like to do, and how they spend their time. When we're interested in others, they become interested in us.

Be on time. Time is undoubtedly our most valuable asset. When we show up on time, we tell the other person that we not only value our time, but their time as well. It's a sign of respect and displays that we're put together, rather than showing up late with an excuse.

Be yourself. To some extent, we'll have to conform and gauge other people, but we should all be our authentic self. We don't want to pretend to be someone we're not. Being who we are with our words and actions shows we're confident with ourselves and makes others trust and believe in us.

First impressions create the initial perception people make about us. Although they can be important in many situations, it's important to be authentic. We want to do what we can to present ourselves properly, but in a genuine way.

"A stunning first impression was not the same thing as love at first sight. But surely it was an invitation to consider the matter." -Lois McMaster Bujold
